π BUZZ SPOTLIGHT
From Market to Match Day!
A Friday Night Market visit that turned into a winning Saturday spread! πΏπ¦π
On Friday, 28 August 2026, I visited the Blouberg Friday Night Market at the Sunningdale Sports Complex.
There's something special about wandering through a market β discovering products you may never have come across otherwise, chatting to the people behind the stalls and, of course, trying to resist taking far too many delicious goodies home!
Well... I didn't resist! π
I came away with a selection of delicious products from local suppliers, each with something unique to offer. At the time, I was simply enjoying discovering some great market finds.
Little did I know they would become the centrepiece of our Saturday rugby match-day spread!
ποΈ Straight from the Market
These were some of the delicious goodies I brought home from the Blouberg Friday Night Market.
From flavour-packed meats and traditional Kibbeh to smoked cheeses, smoked snoek patΓ© and Hot Honey, there was plenty to tempt the taste buds!
π From Market to Match Day
The following day was rugby day! πΏπ¦
With South Africa taking on New Zealand, it seemed like the perfect excuse to put my Friday night market finds to good use.
I pulled out a serving board and added a few extras that I already had at home β including hummus, biscuits and nuts.
And just like that, a collection of products discovered at a local market became the perfect match-day snack board!
A few market finds, a few extras from home... and suddenly we had a feast fit for a rugby afternoon!
π Meet the Makers Behind the Board
One of the things I love most about visiting markets is that behind every product is a person, a family or a small business.
This board wasn't created by one big brand or supermarket.
It was made possible by several passionate local producers, each bringing something different to the table.
And that's exactly what makes markets special.
Mendi House
Featured Product: Kibbeh
Kibbeh was one of my delicious discoveries at the market and made a wonderful addition to the board.
Mendi House brought something a little different to the spread and is a great example of the interesting and diverse food products waiting to be discovered at local markets.

Hanzon Deli
Featured Products: Bacon Sticks β’ Fiery Chorizo Sticks β’ Feta Dip
Hanzon Deli was responsible for several of the flavour-packed additions to the board.
The Bacon Sticks and Fiery Chorizo Sticks added plenty of savoury goodness, while the Feta Dip was the perfect creamy accompaniment.

Davish Kitchen
Featured Products: Smoked Snoek PatΓ© β’ Smoked Mozzarella β’ Smoked Cheddar
Davish Kitchen contributed three delicious elements to the board.
The Smoked Snoek PatΓ© brought a distinctive local flavour, while the Smoked Mozzarella and Smoked Cheddar added the perfect cheese selection to complement the other market finds.

The Original Rooibos Jam Company
Featured Product: π― Hot Honey
And then there was the Hot Honey!
Sweet, sticky and with a little kick, it was a fantastic addition to the board and paired beautifully with the savoury products.
Sometimes it's those unexpected discoveries at a market that become the products you remember most.

More Than Just a Market Visit
This little experience perfectly demonstrates something we believe strongly in at Market Hive SA (Pty) Ltd.
Markets are about so much more than simply buying something and going home.
They are places where people discover.
β¨ You discover a new flavour.
ποΈ You discover a small business you didn't know existed.
π€ You meet the people behind the products.
π‘ And those products become part of your life long after market day is over.
My Friday evening visit to the Blouberg Friday Night Market became part of our Saturday rugby experience.
A collection of products from different local businesses came together on one board, around one table, creating a memorable afternoon.
That's the beauty of supporting local.
